Experience life on campus at BGU’S Summer Residential 2019

Year 12 students are invited to take part in a Summer Residential at Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) in Lincoln for a hands-on university experience.

BGU’s Year 12 Summer Residential takes place from Wednesday 7th August – Friday 9th August 2019 and is completely free of charge.

The Residential offers the opportunity to find out more about Higher Education and provides a real hands-on experience of what it is like to be a university student.

Participants will be provided with free meals and accommodation on the BGU campus so they can really get a feel for student life while making new friends and having fun in the process.

Last year the Summer Residential included on-campus academic taster sessions, laser tag and a superheroes fancy dress competition, amongst other fantastic activities.

Conor Beaumont, De Aston School pupil and 2017 BGU Summer Residential participant, said, “the Residential has given me the confidence that I am able to bond with others and meet new people.

“I was worried about staying away from home, however the flats were cosy and gave a home-like feel to them.

“The Summer Residential was a massive reassurance for me, as it allowed me to engage in HE and gain a valuable insight into university.”

Sophie Lounds is a second year Education Studies student at BGU who attended a Summer Residential in 2015 and worked as a student ambassador at the 2017 Residential.

She said, “The Summer Residential made me realise that I can survive on my own (without my Mum) and be successful.

“I got to speak to current students while being at the Residential and they were really honest with their own experiences of university and gave some really good advice about what to look for in a university.

“I really enjoyed having the opportunity to try different things, talk to people I probably wouldn’t have interacted with before, try new activities and stay away from home – something I hadn’t done before.

“It’s a great opportunity to experience new things and to decide if university, not just BGU, is the right path for you to choose.”
