When you go to the cinema to see the latest Oscar-nominated movie you don't expect to come away with a bottle of champagne and a free entry voucher!
But that's what happened to film fan Derek Godson when he became the 10,000th customer to visit The Venue at Bishop Grosseteste University since it opened in September 2012. Derek was presented with a certificate and a bottle of champagne and also won free entry to Wednesday screenings for the rest of the year.
Bev Bamber, Head of Conferencing & Events at Bishop Grosseteste University, made the presentation at last week's matinée screening of Philomena starring Dame Judi Dench and Steve Coogan. "We're delighted and proud to have reached the 10,000 customer mark," he said. "As well as being a fantastic resource for our own students, The Venue is successfully reaching out into the local community and giving people the chance to see both mainstream and more specialist films."
Films coming up at The Venue include Gravity (this Wednesday 22nd January), Saving Mr Banks, Mary Poppins and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. This year for the first time The Venue will also be screening live transmissions of plays from the National Theatre, including War Horse and King Lear, as well as performances by the English National Opera, the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The full programme of film screenings, live theatre broadcasts and Lincoln Film Society offerings can be found on The Venue's website: www.thevenuelincoln.co.uk
