An Evening with Mary Queen of Scots
Wednesday 26 June 2013 7.00pm for 7.30pm | The Venue, Bishop Grosseteste University
Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner at Tutbury Castle on four occasions and it was her first English prison. She left Tutbury for the last time in 1585 when she was moved to Chartley. From there she was sent to Fotheringhay Castle in Northamptonshire where she was executed in 1587.
Here is a chance to meet Mary, in full authentic costume, during her imprisonment at Tutbury. Learn about Mary's three marriages and life in Tudor times.
Join us for a themed evening of entertainment as Lesley Smith returns to BGU as Mary Queen of Scots. The event is raising funds for the BGU Foundation Fund to support students who wish to engage in volunteering activities abroad.
The ticket price of £20 will include, a glass of wine on arrival and a Traditional Hog Roast Manchet (roll with pork stuffing and apple sauce), vegetarian option available on request. All the while being entertained by "Wilderwood" playing evocative Tudor period music followed by an audience with Mary Queen of Scots.
Lesley Smith - FSA Scot, M. Univ (Hon) M.S.M.W
Lesley Smith is Curator of Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire and essentially an English Reformist Medical Historian. Recognised as an authority in her field, she has lectured across the world making over 300 public performances a year and has 28 academic publications in her name. Lesley has appeared in over 120 television programmes in the last 6 years going out to 47 countries and gives national radio interviews.
