The inaugural NQT Conference at BGU on 25th January 2013 will give newly qualified teachers - many of whom graduated from BGU - an opportunity to develop their career and network with other teachers.
At the same time it will enable the university to keep in touch with its alumni and catch up on their career progression to date.
"This conference will give all newly qualified teachers the opportunity to develop their own academic engagement and provide a platform for them to widen their network of professional colleagues," said Andrew Lane, Academic Co-ordinator for Primary Education at BGU.
"It is a new initiative and an exciting opportunity to keep abreast of what alumni students are doing and to follow closely their professional and academic careers."
Around 40 newly qualified teachers from Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Cambridgeshire and Yorkshire are expected to attend the conference, the theme of which is Learning Without Limits.
The keynote speaker at the conference will be Alison Peacock, a National Leader in Education (NLE) who leads a National Support School. Her research interests include pupil voice and learning without limits - in other words, teaching without labelling by ability.
The rest of the day will feature workshops led by academic staff at Bishop Grosseteste University who are specialists in the 'learning without limits' field.
The inaugural NQT Conference 2013 is just one of several exciting developments at BGU: the institution celebrated its 150th anniversary last year and has just been awarded university title by Privy Council.
In 2012 its library underwent a £2.5m refurbishment and a new £4.3 million accommodation block is about to be built on campus.
