Happy Birthday to us!

 17/01/2012

Party games, live music and a birthday cake will all be on the menu when Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln celebrates its 150th anniversary this week (20th January).

The college first opened its doors in January 1862 and a range of celebrations are taking place throughout this academic year.

On Friday 20th January students and staff will enjoy a light-hearted all-day birthday party which will begin at 10.30am with games, live music and party food and continue into the evening with a live band and DJ sets.

The party in Connie's Restaurant, Constance Stewart Hall, is a prelude to a more formal service of celebration for past and present governors, staff, students and friends at Lincoln Cathedral at 10.30am on Thursday 16th February and follows the honour of a Civic Dinner hosted by the Mayor of Lincoln on Monday 16 January..

The college has been celebrating in other ways too: in September Chair of Governors Max Manin jumped from a plane and raised over £2,000 for charity, and colleagues are building a map showing all the schools across the world where BG-trained teachers have worked.
There will also be a Homecoming Weekend and Alumni Reunion from 4th to 6th May 2012.

"Our 150th anniversary celebrations are now in full swing. We are of course particularly honoured by the city's recognition of our contribution through today's civic dinner, and looking forward to the cathedral service in February. Meanwhile staff and students can enjoy a more informal celebration at our birthday party," said Professor Muriel Robinson, Principal of Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln.

"Although our 150 years of tradition are very important to us, we are always looking to the future: last month we opened BG Futures, a new facility supporting enterprising start-up businesses, and we currently are investing £2.5m in a new library extension."
