#12DaysofBGU Day 3: TEF Gold

Day 3 - TEF Gold.jpg

In June Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) was rated Gold in the first ever Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

The TEF was introduced by the Government to build a new picture of excellence in teaching and learning in UK’s world-class higher education sector. It will give clear information to undergraduates about universities with the best teaching provision.

A TEF Panel, made up of independent experts from across the country, judged that BGU delivers consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. It is of the highest quality found in the UK.

BGU is one of only a few universities, from across the UK, to be awarded a Gold rating. It is the highest level of achievement and internationally recognised as a mark of quality.

The Panel recognised BGU’s strengths in all three elements of the TEF: teaching quality, the learning environment and student outcomes. Their written statement praised BGU's "personalised approach with high quality support maximising retention, attainment and progression" and commented on the outstanding support that is available at BGU, which ensures “that students from all backgrounds achieve excellent outcomes”.

This latest award confirms previous research that shows BGU graduates are some of the most employable in the UK. This is reflected in the fact that BGU is ranked third among UK universities for student employability. The outcome praised BGU, stating that: "Employability and enterprise skills are embedded throughout the student experience enabling students to acquire knowledge, skills and understanding that are most highly valued by employers"

The Vice-Chancellor of BGU, the Rev. Canon Professor Peter Neil, commenting on the TEF outcome said: “This is an outstanding result for the University. I have always been confident that we offer a gold standard experience to our students. However to receive this external judgment at national level by the panel of experts is very pleasing indeed.

“To be judged to be in the top 26% of higher education providers across the whole country is confirmation of the quality of the education our students receive at BGU. It is also evidence that students who come to BGU are very likely to complete their studies successfully and to gain employment in the shortest possible time following graduation.”
